Background: where the film fits
The project was first revealed in November 2024 as a prequel to Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom, the 2024 film that continued the story of the original Mobile Suit Gundam SEED (2002) and SEED Destiny (2004). Bandai Namco confirmed a theatrical release in May 2026, then locked in the date this October.
The official site gives the setup: it is the year C.E. 74, the war is over, and Cagalli is building a peace monitoring agency called COMPS. A mobile suit is moved from ZAFT to COMPS's temporary base on Onogoro Island, and that night the Strike Freedom Gundam is stolen. Shinn, who has not yet decided what to do after the war, is pulled back into battle.

What it means
Two things stand out. First, the story is about Shinn, the pilot many fans felt Destiny never fully resolved. At the New York panel, planning producer Kaori Shida said the teaser visual uses red, Shinn's concept color, to show how he feels after the events of Destiny. Second, the script was reportedly written by the late Chiaki Morosawa, so this is a film that has waited a long time for the screen.
If you want to be ready, the safe order is SEED, then Destiny, then Freedom. FREEDOM ZERO sits in the gap before Freedom, so the 2024 film is the one that will land hardest if you have seen it first. Our Gundam watch order guide covers where SEED fits in the wider franchise, and our mecha anime page lists more robot titles.
For readers in the Philippines and Southeast Asia: no regional release date or streaming service has been announced for this film. Availability varies by region, so check your local cinema chains and the official Gundam channels for updates. Search interest here is real: the title is looked up nearly as often in the Philippines as in the United States, which is why we are tracking it.
