Background
Phantom Busters is a manga by Neoshoco that has run in Shueisha's Jump Square since August 2023. Viz Media began publishing the English edition in October 2025, and the series has passed 1.4 million copies in circulation, counting digital editions. The anime itself was announced in September 2026. The story centers on a club of ghost hunters who are looking for a fourth member, and the person they recruit is Kotaro Tamon, a classmate who appears able to talk to ghosts but has trouble talking with living people.
What it means
This is a mainstream supernatural comedy-action series rather than a title for the adult mecha or seinen audience, but it adds a new Jump Square adaptation to the 2027 calendar. The cast leans on well-known voices, which is a sign of a confident production, and TOHO animation STUDIO has a record in recent years that gives the project a reasonable chance of a polished result. Because the first look is a teaser visual and not a trailer, there is still no information on animation style, number of episodes or whether it will run for one or two cours. Readers of the English manga have a good opportunity to catch up before a broadcast date is announced.
We will cover the next update when a premiere month or a first trailer is published. For now the practical takeaway is simple: the production team is set, the cast is known, and the main open question is the season and the broadcaster. Fans can read the manga in English through Viz in the meantime, since it is already available.
