The Historie anime, an adaptation of Hitoshi Iwaaki's historical manga about Eumenes of Cardia, is set to premiere in January 2027 from studio LIDENFILMS. No exact day has been announced. The cast was revealed on 25 May 2026, with Nobunaga Shimazaki voicing Eumenes.

What was announced
The anime was first announced at the turn of 2026 (31 December 2025 in US time, 1 January in Japan) with a teaser visual and a short trailer. On 25 May 2026 the official website added a second teaser visual, the first full promo video, a January 2027 premiere window and eleven cast members. Anime Corner and AnimeTV both report the same details.
Shimazaki leads as Eumenes. Other announced roles include Ryota Suzuki and Kazuya Ichijo as the two Hieronymus characters, Yuko Kaida as Telesilla, Wataru Takagi as Charon, Tsuguo Mogami as Aristotle, Miki Kariya as Perialla and Junya Enoki as Tolmides. Spellings of some character names differ between outlets, so treat them as provisional. A director has not been named in the sources we could check.

Background: the manga and its creator
Historie has run in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon since January 2003. Anime Corner lists 12 volumes as of June 2024, so the story is far from finished. AnimeTV puts total circulation above 4.7 million copies. The manga won the Japan Media Arts Festival Grand Prize in 2010 and the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2012, and Anime Corner reports a Kodansha Manga Award in 2025.
Iwaaki also created Parasyte, which Madhouse adapted into 24 episodes in 2014 and 2015. Historie is a very different book: a fictionalized life of Eumenes, a young Greek of Cardia who meets Aristotle and later becomes secretary and general to Alexander the Great. The English edition is digital on K Manga.
What it means
A manga that has run for more than two decades with a slow, research-heavy pace now gets a TV anime in the same season as several large franchise returns. Expect war, slavery and political scheming, so this is an adult-leaning seinen show. Because the manga is unfinished, the anime may end before the story does. That is our reading, not an announcement.
