What happened to season 2
The gap between the two seasons was about six years. Season 1 finished in March 2020 and the sequel was first reported as a 2025 project, then moved. Wikipedia notes it was "originally scheduled for 2025, but was later delayed". We found no official explanation for the delay, so we do not offer one.
On March 11, 2026, coverage of Toho Animation's trailer reveal gave April 1, 2026 as the premiere, with Crunchyroll, Netflix and ADN named on the official website. The season then ran weekly for 11 episodes. The finale aired on May 27, 2026, and the season 3 announcement came the same day.
Season 2 is shorter than season 1's 12 episodes. Fans on Reddit praised the animation, and a few newcomers on r/anime called the season confusing, which is one more reason to watch season 1 first.
Is Dorohedoro season 3 confirmed?
Yes. Toho announced on May 27, 2026 that a third season is in production, with MAPPA again handling animation and director Hayashi releasing a new illustration to mark it. A teaser appeared during MAPPA's 15th anniversary presentation on June 19, 2026. As of November 5, 2026 we found no official premiere date, no season window and no announced platform for season 3.
Sites that guess a year are guessing. Treat any specific date you see as unconfirmed until it appears on the official site or the official X account (@dorohedoro_PR).

What the show is (no spoilers)
Caiman is a man with a reptile head and no memory of his past. In a city split between magic users and ordinary people, he hunts sorcerers with his friend Nikaido to find out who did this to him. The tone swings between brutal fights, absurd domestic comedy and a lot of mess. The art and sets are a big part of the draw: filthy streets, cluttered shops and strange body designs. If you try one episode and the mix of gore and jokes works for you, the rest follows the same tone.
Season 2 picks up the larger story rather than repeating the setup, so jumping in cold is the main way to get lost. Plan roughly 12 episodes of season 1 plus 11 of season 2 for a full catch-up, and add the OVA only if you want every extra.

Manga coverage (mild spoilers about scope, not plot)
The manga by Q Hayashida ran 18 years and ended with chapter 167 in September 2018, collected in 23 volumes. Reports disagree on how far the anime has reached. One French outlet says the season 2 finale covers chapters 78 and 79 and that season 3 would start at chapter 80, while another says about 92 of 167 chapters have been adapted. We could not confirm either from an official source, so we present both as unverified.
What is safe to say: the anime has not reached the end of the story, and a large part of the manga remains. If you want to read ahead, check with a spoiler-aware community first.

Dorohedoro is dark fantasy comedy with gore, body horror, grimy violence and crude humor. Characters are transformed, mutilated and killed, often for laughs.
