The short web anime Mecha Samurai began releasing vertical shorts on November 2, 2026 on YouTube, X, Instagram and TikTok. TV Tokyo and the studio Plott are behind it, with Shaman King creator Hiroyuki Takei drawing the main character designs. A pre-season episode follows on November 20, and the full series arrives in spring 2027.

Background
Plott makes short anime for YouTube. In the October 27 release, TV Tokyo gives the studio's reach as about 1 billion views a month and 24 billion in total, which is the company's own figure. TV Tokyo joined as a production partner so the project can reach more viewers.
Hiroyuki Takei is best known for Shaman King, which ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1998 and became a TV anime. His role here is original character design, not writing or directing.
What it means
The name suggests a robot show, but the details released so far point somewhere else. According to Final Weapon, which cites Anime News Network, the story is set in present-day Japan, where mechanical ghosts called yokai come from another dimension, and the hero fights them with a katana infused with their power. That reads closer to samurai action with machine enemies than to piloted-robot mecha. Treat the genre label as unsettled until the episodes are out.
The release plan matters more than the genre. Short clips, then a pre-season episode, then a full series is a way to test an audience before committing to a larger release.
