Bandai Namco Entertainment announced Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3 on October 28, 2026, during the Gundam Games 40th anniversary livestream. The free-to-play team combat game is coming to PlayStation 5 and to PC through Steam, with cross-play between the two. No release date has been set.

What was announced

  • Platforms: PlayStation 5 and Steam, with cross-play support.
  • Model: free to play, and the third entry in the Battle Operation series.
  • Combat: large team battles in which mobile suits and infantry fight side by side. Players can leave the cockpit to plant base bombs, call in support fire and capture objectives on foot.
  • New features: SP Skills that give each mobile suit its own role, a Battle Assist interface meant to make combos easier, and a Base Camp hub for meeting other players.
  • Launch content: mobile suits from the Universal Century and from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, with more series planned for later updates.
  • Release: "coming soon", with the date still to be announced. An announcement trailer has been released.

Background

Battle Operation is Bandai Namco's long-running online team combat line, and this announcement came as part of a livestream marking forty years of Gundam games. The reveal was not a complete surprise. In September, Gematsu reported that a "Network Test Version" of the game had appeared on SteamDB, which pointed to a test being prepared before the formal announcement. Bandai Namco has not yet said whether a public test will take place.

What it means

The most interesting design choice is the mix of eras. Putting Universal Century machines next to Gundam SEED units in the same match is a broad invitation to fans of both camps, and the promise of more series later suggests a live-service plan rather than a one-off release. Free-to-play plus cross-play on PS5 and Steam lowers the barrier for the wider Gundam audience, especially those who know the franchise mainly through anime and model kits. The infantry layer is a notable change of pace for a series about giant robots, and it will be worth watching whether it improves the large-scale battles or complicates them. Until a release date and a monetization plan arrive, those questions remain open.

For fans who came to the franchise through the television series, this is a game-side announcement rather than an anime one, so it does not change any anime schedule.
