Norihiro Yagi, the creator of the dark fantasy manga Claymore, has begun a new series called Bartlet Fairy Basslet on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ platform. The first chapter, titled "Sword1", went up on Monday, November 2, 2026, and the series updates weekly on Mondays.

What was announced

  • Title: Bartlet Fairy Basslet, written and drawn by Norihiro Yagi.
  • Platform: Shonen Jump+, with weekly updates on Mondays. The official page lists the next chapter for November 9.
  • Premise: Brunhilde, a princess who also leads her country's knights, is heading home after defeating her enemy when mysterious glowing fish begin falling from the sky. The official page describes the series as a sword-fighting fantasy.

Background

Yagi's best-known work is Claymore. It ran in Monthly Shonen Jump from June 2001 to June 2007, moved to Jump SQ in November 2007 and ended in October 2014, with a 27th and final volume published that December. Viz Media licensed it in English in 2006. Madhouse adapted it as a 26-episode anime that aired in spring 2007. Claymore followed female warriors who fight monsters in a grim, violent world, and that mix of armored heroines and bloody swordplay is the reason many readers still associate the author with dark fantasy. After Claymore he drew Ariadne in the Blue Sky for Shogakukan, which ended in 2023, and he has published several one-shots since.

What it means

Two things stand out. First, the launch is on Jump+, a digital platform with free weekly chapters, so the series is easy to sample and may find readers who never touched Claymore. Second, the setup of a knight-princess, a monster-adjacent mystery and a returning artist known for sword combat suggests a return to the genre where Yagi built his reputation. It is too early to say how dark the tone will be, because only the first chapter and a short synopsis are public. There is also no word on an English release or an anime. If you read Claymore, the first chapter is the quickest way to judge whether the style carries over.

The key visual released for the launch uses the Claymore name as its main selling point, which shows how much the publisher expects the earlier series to bring in readers.
