Gabimaru the Hollow is a condemned ninja who only wants to get back to his wife. The shogunate offers him a pardon if he brings back the elixir of life from Shinsenkyo, an island few expeditions have returned from. He is paired with Sagiri, an executioner who must watch over him, and they land among other convicts and executioners racing for the same prize. MAPPA's 2023 adaptation of Yuji Kaku's manga is violent, stylish and darker than it first looks.
